Where is Whalsay?

Whalsay is one of Shetland's inhabited islands, located six miles east of Mainland Shetland.

Known as the "Bonnie Isle", Whalsay is famous for its rich fishing heritage, abundant wildlife and warm island community. Whether you're walking along the shoreline, spotting seabirds over the loch or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, Whalsay offers an authentic taste of Shetland.

How do we get there?

Reaching Whalsay is all part of the adventure!

Travel to Shetland by ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick or by direct flight to Sumburgh Airport. From Lerwick, it's around a 30-minute drive to Laxo Ferry Terminal, followed by a 30-minute ferry crossing to Whalsay.
